2007-up (EFI) heads have a wider bolt pattern for the intake flanges. ((aswtacing of the XLFORUM https://www.xlforum.net/forum/sportster-motorcycle-forum/sportster-motorcycle-motor-engine/sportster-motorcycle-motor-top-end/195512-xr-heads-on-xl?highlight=intake+manifold#post4255444)) \\
It's easier to get to the bolts on 07 and up intakes. \\
All the 2007+ heads have their manifold mating surfaces milled down about 1/16" as compared with carb type heads. \\
If you were to try and put the carb type intake manifold on an 07 engine, you'll find it needs to be about 1/8" wider. \\
If you don't get a wider manifold, there's a good chance you'll have issues with the seals being sucked into the intake ports on decel.
