[[:techtalk:menu|{{ :techtalk:gototechnicalmenu.jpg|}}]] ====== REF: Service Procedures 16 ====== ====== Hydraulic Lifter - Disassembly / Inspection / Assembly ====== ===== Disassembly ===== Disassembling a lifter is not very difficult. \\ The plunger is under slight spring load from the retaining ring when the oil is bled off of the lifter. \\ A pumped up lifter can be bled by removing the check valve on the bottom and pressing a pushrod in the lifter hole. \\ |A doglegged pick works good for removing the \\ retainer clip and removing the internals. ((photo by Hippysmack))|This is not a good idea as the clip may fly off once \\ removed and you can lose it. ((photo by Hippysmack))|Push slightly on the plunger to remove pressure on \\ the clip and use the pic to pull the clip away from \\ the groove in the top. ((photo by Hippysmack))| |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_disassembly_1_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_disassembly_2_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_disassembly_3_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| |Now you can remove the clip. You can dump the lifter into a rag to keep from losing parts and the guts may fall out when turned upside down. \\ Notice the springs natural positioning of the top of the cup. A spare pushrod or screwdriver can also be used to depress the plunger. {{:techtalk:ref:tools:lifter_holding_tool_2_by_ngot8r.jpg?direct&300|}} ((photo by NGOT8R of the XLFORUM https://www.xlforum.net/forum/sportster-motorcycle-forum/sportster-motorcycle-motor-engine/sportster-motorcycle-engine-conversions/199567-converting-from-1250-to-1275/page4?t=2076454&page=4)) |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_1_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_3_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_4_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_5_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_2_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_6_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_7_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_8_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_9_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_10_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_11_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_12_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| |{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_13_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_14_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}|{{:techtalk:ref:svcproc:lifter_assembly_15_by_hippysmack.jpg?direct&300|}}| \\ [[:techtalk:menu|{{:techtalk:gototechnicalmenu.jpg|}}]]
