Heat Cycling
A process of heating up and cooling down the engine’s internal parts in stages to help insure mating/ sealing of the piston rings to the pistons and cylinder walls. This process is used on a newly built engine and is done as a deterrent against microwelding.

A process using sanding stones or other abrasives to rough up cylinder walls after boring to help the rings seal. Also used with finer abrasives to achieve a final clearance dimension
