Wrench for Removing the Oil Filter

Got to do what you've got to do.
This is a ratchet clamp from a hardware store. 2)

This one works fine. You just have to set it at an
angle outside the footprint of the frame. 5)

Funnels for Oil

  • Basically you can use whatever you have close at hand. It is definitely better to avoid the spilled oil on the bike. 6)
  • A piece of newspaper, cardboard paper plate etc. can be tucked under the filter with the sides rolled to funnel into a catch pan / container.
  • Note, anything you use will work best if you cut a small notch (or “V” 7) ) in it to correspond to that rib below the filter that sticks out where the trough needs to sit, otherwise it will not push far enough in to catch all the oil that drips down. 8). You can also stuff paper towels up under and around the backside of the oil filter before removing it and just throw them away when your done. 9)
  • The carb board and paper trick just might end up in the dump polluting the water system, however, if that is a concern. 10)
(Intentionally draining oil on the ground is illegal in the U.S.)
    • Other ideas:
      • A piece of an old (or blank) aluminum bent into a trough. 11)
      • An old car license plate curved and stuck under filter to drain filter oil in pan. 12)
Newspaper Funnel 13) A Piece of Rain Gutter 14)
  • Most any empty plastic bottle with sufficient length to bring the oil away from the bike can be cut out as a decent funnel.
  • Just cut out one side of the container, leave the cap off and let it drain into a drip pan / container.
  • Examples range from:
    • A small plastic milk jug 15) or a gallon water bottle. 16)
    • A tall cut out 1 litre shampoo bottle. 17)
A used and cutout oil bottle 18) A used and cutout milk jug 19)
Another variation using a bottle. 20)
An old antifreeze jug with the side cut open making a
drain pan and the cut piece is bent as a funnel. 21)

Funnels for Gas

A traditional funnel placed in a gas can neck can help you drain a dual sided gas tank for removal.
Just loosen the hose clamp and let it drain into the can.

Oil Drip Pans and Containers

Oil Catch Pan 23) Cut up milk jug catch pan 24)

This type container allows you to either store or transport used oil without as much problems with spillage.

Collect the oil, haul it to your nearest auto parts
store for recycling. 25)
