1982-up frames are still basically the same design till 2003.

  • The first generation oil tank (82-93) had crack prone welded brackets which can be remedied by upgrading the tank.

  • The front motor mounts changed in 82.
  • The 82 rear motor mount is offset 13/32“ to the left of the position for pre-82 engines and shifts the motor to the left. 1) 2)
  • The steering head is completely different, 82-up takes a 1” stem.
  • The rear fender struts are completely different.
  • Chain guard is different.

This frame (part# 47265-81) is OEM for 1982 Sportster 1000cc engines.
