HD Air Shocks from BT Models

Some folks have tried using the air shocks that are stock on some Big Twin models as alternatives for their Sportster models. The satisfaction with this option varied quite a bit. As all changes in suspension are dependent on accounting for the specific model bike, the rider/passenger weights & cargo weight, the idea is that air shocks can be adjusted for those factors.

You need 3/16 male NPT to 1/8 compression fittings for on the shocks. I went to AutoZone and got a air shock install kit.

My determinations about H-D air shocks are listed below. I welcome edits and corrections.

Per searches of XLF, various H-D fiche websites, H-D P&A Catalog & website, and eBay:
- 2014-2016 Touring air shocks
— 54662-09 12.00” c-c (c-c = length between centers of the mounting eyes when shock is fully extended)
— 54000036 12.75“ c-c
- 2009-2013 Touring air shocks
— 54662-09 12.00” c-c
— 54565-09 12.75“ c-c
—— NOTE: This part number no longer comes up on some sites & some sites list 54000036 as the replacement part for the 2009-2013 “tall-shock” Touring models

- For H-D touring-model air shock part numbers that use the xxxxx-xx format:
— If the third digit of the part number is a “6”, it's a short (12.00”) shock
— If the third digit of the part number is a “5”, it's a tall (12.75“) shock
