Gap
Gasket
A thin material (cork, paper, asbestos or metal) sandwiched between two parts to seal the joint between them
Gauge
- A tool for measuring. Examples include a slide caliper for outside surface and minor depth measurements, snap gauge (telescoping bore gauge) for measuring ID of bores or round holes, a depth gauge for measuring just that, dial indicator w/ magnetic stand for sideplay, trueness of shafts, valve, cam lift etc.
- Instrument panel display for monitoring engine conditions, speed, RPMs, oil temp, oil pressure etc.
Gear Ratio
The drive ratio of a pair of gears as calculated by their number of teeth. 3)
Greybeard
Slang for an older, supposedly wiser, biker.
Growereling
A syncopated pandemonium that is the gathering of XLs. A sound when amongst other Sportster pedigrees, is much like the sound of bombers in WW2 formation. Growel, growel whir growel, in phase and out..very dinstictive. 4)
Gross Axel Weight Rating - Front (GAWR-FRONT) or Rear (GAWR-Rear)
The gross axle weight rating (GAWR) is the maximum distributed weight that may be supported by an axle of a road vehicle. Typically, GAWR is followed by either the letters FR or RR, which indicate front or rear axles respectively.5)
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR)
The maximum weight a vehicle is designed to carry including the net weight of the vehicle with accessories, plus the weight of passengers, fuel, and cargo. The GVWR is a safety standard used to prevent overloading.6)
